Feasibility Studies

After multiple meetings, your steering committee has decided that we should apply for the Producers Value Added Grant (PVAG) and the Rural Business Development Grant (RBDG) under the USDA. The Producers Value Added Grant will look at the market feasibility of a Food Hub on the Western Slope. The RBDG would look at the design of the Food Hub to carry out our desired activities. These grant proposals are due the end of January, and we are beginning to complete the paperwork now.

This is where all of you come in. These grants have either 25% to 50% matches required so at this time we are soliciting donations to fund the studies and to pay for The Business Incubator Center’s (BIC) staff time.

Non-Profit Status via BIC

We will be utilizing the Incubator’s non-profit status to collect the funds necessary to create the study. In this way, we can utilize the experience, resources, and mentorship of the Incubator until such time as we need to form a legal entity and go on our own. They will act as a pass-through for the RBDG and the administrator for the PVAG. Should we be turned down for the grants, we would continue to move forward and self-fund the studies with the money raised.

Contact Annalisa Pearson at Info@GVfoodhub.org on how to donate to the cause.

It’s Time for Your Input Again

So, as we move forward, we need to discuss the legal entity options before us. Are we a true co-op of consumers and/or producers? Do we want to run our own farmers’ markets in the meantime? Can we invite trucking companies to join us to deal with logistics of getting to market?

We also want to know how was everyone’s year? What worked? What didn’t work?

How do we reach out to the growers and producers that are not on this email list? (go ahead and share this via email, social media, etc., but share and share alike)

We will be having a meeting at The Business Incubator Center’s on November 2nd at 5pm, at 2591 Legacy Way
Grand Junction, CO 81503 MAP

Letters of Support for the Food Hub

In addition to the funds, we will be needing letters of support for the Food Hub to accompany the grant proposals. We are are requesting letters from consumers, restaurants, institutions, and farmers and food producers. If you are willing to sign and letter, please contact us and we will tell you how you can participate.

NOTE: This in NO WAY commits you to being involved in the Food Hub.
